SBP - Sustainable Biomass Program

Certification for woody biomass

SBP (Sustainable Biomass Program) is a certification programme that works to ensure an economically, environmentally and socially sustainable solid biomass supply chain that contributes to a low carbon economy.

SBP is also a tool for profiling greenhouse gas balance data for the biomass, in the context of procurement, production and delivery chain.

Who can benefit from SBP?

  • Pellet manufacturers and chip producers who are exporting to energy plants in e.g. Belgium, Netherlands, UK and Denmark.
  • Company that is applying for SBP certification should have FSC or PEFC Chain of Custody certificate.

SBP has developed a certification programme to provide assurance that woody biomass is sourced from legal and sustainable sources allowing companies in the biomass sector to demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements.
